In Another Life

_MG_2859I love to look out of my bedroom window at sailboats on Puget Sound. It can be a bitter sweet experience for me though. I never really wanted to be a cowboy as my song “In Another Life” suggests. When I was a kid I wanted to sail around the world
and journey to foreign lands all over the globe, anywhere a boat could take me. I even once had the sailboat capable of such a journey.

Many years later I now have a wife and two precious children. The image I had of myself single handing my vessel into the wind on a starboard tack in the middle of a kind, and uncharacteristically gentle ocean, has faded like the vivid sunsets that melt away into the night around here.

We had a sunset like that just last night.

This morning it was blueberry picking time! Grab the kids, sunscreen, and water bottles and … oh yeah… the camera! Get out to the berries before it gets too hot and pick a bunch. Stop by DQ for an ice cream. Run to Costco then to Haggens, then home. God puts us right where He wants us in life! As hectic as it can be at times, He changes us through our children. Through them I find more joy in the simple things, new dreams, kind of like when I was… a kid.

I still dream of that boat and some beautiful (not so far away) places, but now I see a wife and two children sharing the journey with me. Keep your dreams alive by including those you love.

Here is a video I took of my two kids Olivia and Newell picking blueberries.

Hi Rod, Your messages are so real. They speak to the heart. I love how you are blending your songs with your messages. I would love to see some photo of the views from your window and the fun time you had with your kids. Blessings, Randy
