Evening Clouds
We live in the land of rain! A long Summer here is oh…about two months. The Northwest is a beautiful area though because the rain keeps everything green. God has blessed this area with spectacular sunsets, and clouds….. oh those magnificent cumulonimbus that reflect every color of the rainbow as they drift in from the Pacific floating on a background of azure blues, crimson reds. They are very soothing to the eyes, and since my eyes need as much soothing as possible after the strabismus surgery I had a few days ago, I have relegated them to observing the clouds. Do you recall as a child, using your imagination to find shapes, faces and animals in those ever changing giants? I do. It was a fun past time for a small kid with a big imagination. I remember believing God lived up there in a big castle and that lightning was his way of getting our attention. I see God differently now although I believe he still wants our attention.
I wrote this song “Evening Clouds” for the “Precious Moments: Lullabies For Little Ones” project produced by David and Bonnie Huntsinger and sung by Tanya Goodman Sykes of the “Gaither Homecoming” fame. I hope you too will let your imagination run wild as you listen to this song.

EVENING CLOUDS
Words And Music: Rod Stone
Evening clouds are drifting through the sky
Changing shape as they go passing by
Can you see the distant castles
Floating in the air
I wonder if the angels live up there
And watch from…
Evening clouds that hide the setting sun
Telling you another day is done
Misty kingdoms high above are watching over you
Could it be that God is watching too
From Evening Clouds
Instrumental
Maybe he will send an angel
To teach you how to fly
You won’t know until you close your eyes
And dream of evening clouds

Wonderful song, Rod. I am sending it out to put all my Twitter friends to sleep-a link to this page. Praying for your eyes. Hope you see an angel teaching you how to fly.
Bob
Rod that is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in a long time. The words and music just take you to a wonderful safe place that only you and God could spend time. God bless and take care of those eyes. Praying for you right now.

Bob,
That was the most beautiful melody/lullaby I have listened to in a long time. It’s so angelic & tender that I could not help but smile in awe & wonder at it’s beauty. “Heavenly” would be the one word definition to describe this song.
Blessings to you,
Melinda
Hi Rod,
I just want to tell you how inspiring it has been to read your blogs written from the heart, and then to listen to the songs you have written. Have now read all the blogs and listened to all the songs except a few that I will go back to on your “Marching Through Culpeper” blog. God has given you a unique talent and gift to use for His glory. Appreciated your down to earth writing style as you share your heart. You use words and music to not only speak to the head but to the soul. It’s easy to shed a few tears listening to some of the songs. This last one, “Evening Clouds” was really special.
Sorry It’s taken me so long to “catch up” after a little surgery detour, but now feel I’m back on schedule. I want to be there for you and your family through prayer and encouragement in any way I can.
Every evening I water my flowers and spend time with the Lord as the sun is setting. Yes, I love to watch the evening clouds. Tonight, after our wonderful prayer call today, I decided to check out your blog. And I was blessed to listen to Evening Clouds. Thank you Rod for this beautiful song that captures the child in each of us, and our longing for our Heavenly Father and His angels, whom we know abide in the evening clouds.
Rod,
I am so excited to hear your beautiful song. I have been searching for years to get another copy of that tape. I have 5 children that I rocked and snuggled with to this precious music. Somewhere along the way of moving one too many times, the tape came up missing. It was devistating to loose this treasure. Is there any way you know of for me to get another one. At this point it feels like it would take an act of heaven to have this tape bless our lives again. Please contact us if you have any leads.
With Love,
Evans family
