“Respected” by Rod Stone
Recently I was privileged to have Virginia Morton, author of Marching Through Culpeper, email a song to me written by Rod Stone and sung by his beautiful wife, Carrie.
Rod wrote this song for the upcoming Marching Through Culpeper play and movie. According to Virginia, this song reveals Constance Armstrong. Constance is the heroine of Marching Through Culpeper, “A Novel of Culpeper, Virginia, Crossroads of the Civil War.”
According to Carrie, “Marching Through Culpeper” is the best novel about the Civil War ever written! After you read it, I’m sure you’ll agree!
As I listened to the song “Respected,” my heart was so deeply touched. I have now listened to this song more than ten times. Each time I listen to the words, the Holy Spirit reminds me of my wonderful wife and how she wants to be respected for who God created her to be.
Husbands, let the Holy Spirit speak to you Spirit to spirit.
Blessings to respect women for who God created them to be!

Lovely!!
Thanks for sending this to me.
It spoke to me and truly speaks for me in conveying the “heart” of, I believe, every woman……… And that truth would be that women have brains/intelligence, can often see the whole picture, can be problem-solvers, and want to be more than a fixture or decoration….I don’t want to be known for beauty (except for those beautiful things I create or convey via music or art or drama), but I want to be known for the difference I make in other’s lives, and in the world…..only possible with the wisdom God has given and promises to give me in greater abundance.
Blessings,
ellen
Thank you Rod, for capturing Constance so perfectly in this fantatic song. Aren’t you blessed to be married to her double?
Rod and Carrie – what a beautiful song that captures the true essence of who Constance is! Carrie – what a beautiful voice and one that sings from the heart!! Thank you for sharing your talents in such a meaningful way.
Having read Virginia’s book nearly 3 times and now getting to know Carrie, I would concur with Virginia’s thoughts that Carrie is the double of Constance. Great, great song Rod and Carrie!
Extraordinary!! Rod and Carrie.
Your music and composition bring out Carrie (Constance) in a mighty, delicate and passionate way that mirrors shared personalities. What a union formed with your gifting within the context of your shared efforts (God’s creation through Virginia, Aruna’s tireless and countless hours in formating and technical knowledge of “Marching Through Culpeper”. There are many others that I don’t know that are making incredible contribution.
I hear Constance coming alive with your music. Now I hear Constance shouting to Frank…Balderdash, Frank Springfellow! We beat you fair and square and you know it.” she exclaimed defiantly. “If I’d been riding astride, we’d have beaten you worse.” – Virginia Morton, Marching Through Culpeper. Delicate, Strong intellectual and passionately explosive. Your music helps me see more clearly the feminine essence that we fellows often take for granted…or, miss altogether. Thank you Joseph for your note to tune in. And now, back to Virginia’s book…Marching Through Culpeper.
Blessings, Brother Ben
Thanks Ben,
I appreciate your feedback! I was hoping people would be able to see Constance more clearly through this song. As everyone knows who has read the book, she was a courageous woman who actually had that great balance of grace, dignity and strength! That’s hard to find. That’s why I married Carrie!
Thank you for your comment Sharon, I believe I’m about do for another read of Marching Through Culpeper myself! What a great novel. Virginia Morton has capture her story perfectly and the characters are so vibrant and real! I have viewed Carrie as a walking and talking example of Constance on more than one occasion. I believe she could have been Constance back then (except for maybe dressing the wounds)! LOL!
Thanks for your wonderful comment Aruna! I am praying for a quick move so I can get back to the songwriting. I believe Virginia’s story deserves the best I can give and I look forward to the day we’ll all be sitting in a theater watching it play out before our eyes!
Virginia, I am blessed to be married to Constance’s double! I am also blessed to be a part of this effort to bring Constance to the stage! Thank you once again in believing in me! I will be on it again as soon as we get moved. Can’t wait!
